WhatsApp introduces new in-app document scanning feature

WhatsApp has introduced a new feature that allows users to scan documents directly within the app before sending them.

Previously, users had to photograph documents, use a dedicated scanning app, or rely on their phone's camera feature (if available) to scan files for sharing.

Now, WhatsApp offers a dedicated "Scan document" option when users choose to upload or select documents to send.

The feature is currently available for iOS users with the WhatsApp for iOS version 24.25.89, as reported by the WaBetaInfo outlet.

Users in India have begun accessing the feature, though it has not yet been rolled out to all Android users or WhatsApp Business accounts.

The document scanning function ensures that the final image is brighter and clearer, improving the legibility of text and signatures, which can sometimes be unclear or poorly exposed when photographed.

Earlier, WhatsApp introduced a new feature that allows users to manage chat message animations, including emojis, stickers, and GIFs.

According to WABetaInfo, this feature will enable users to turn off autoplay, keeping animated emojis still and preventing animated stickers and GIFs from moving unless interacted with.

This update is aimed at users who find excessive animations distracting. The feature is still under development and is expected to be available in future updates.

Additionally, WhatsApp is working on a feature that allows users to access human chat support directly via the web client. This feature will enable users to receive real-time help from human representatives instead of relying on automated systems.
